Happy October Ninth Day!

It turns out that October 9th Day is catching on. Let's see how it is celebrated elsewhere in the world:

Catholics responded by celebrating the feast day of Saints Denis, Rusticus, and Eleutherius, who were sent by Pope St. Clement to evangelize France, where they were martyred. St. Denis, though Italian, is celebrated today as one of the patron saints of France.

Our fair-haired Nordic brethren have taken to celebrating Leif Erikson Day, to commemorate what may have been the first instance of a European coming ashore in North Americas. This did not happen on October 9 of any year.

There is some confusion about the date on which the Korean alphabet was invented, but South Koreans have celebrated Hangul Day on October 9 for some time. Until 1991, this was an actual South Korean holiday, with a day off of work and everything. Three cheers for literacy!

Australian university students celebrated October 9th Day by having a Political Correct Barbecue. Having a separate barbeque for non-whites is the sort of thing I thought we were trying to get away from, but I'll give them points for trying.
